The Prep Program at St Joseph’s begins… the moment your child enters the school. The way we interact with your child reflects the type of program we offer, with the role of preparatory staff as facilitating, scaffolding and monitoring student growth and learning. This preparatory year helps to provide a firm foundation for future learning. Children develop their faith, independence, confidence, responsibility, oral language, literacy and numeracy understandings, creativity, social and personal skills and curiosity about their world.
A typical Prep day is made up of time devoted to:
-
Play
-
Real life situations
-
Investigations
-
Routines and Transitions
-
Focused learning and teaching
-
Teachable moments
We are using The Australian Curriculum in conjunction with The Early Years Curriculum Guidelines. There is a significant focus on investigation and Inquiry-based learning, which is our key philosophy for the Early Years teaching team.
